Obstetrician delays C-section after baby’s blood supply is cut off

In this reported case, the mother was at 38 weeks gestation when her obstetrician attempted delivery of the baby.  The baby was in breech position.  The obstetrician did not inform the mother of the options available to her or of the risks of a vaginal delivery using external cephalic version rotation in order to correct the position of the baby.  As the obstetrician attempted the procedure, the baby’s blood supply was completely cut off when the umbilical cord became entangled.  In spite of signs of Fetal Distress the obstetrician did not perform a C-section for 30 minutes.  As a result the baby suffered from a hypoxic brain injury.  The Life Care Plan exceeded $20 Million.  The law firm that handled this case reported a confidential settlement.
