It is this metal that makes the clicking sound. Dogs need to be told what is expected of them. For starters, some food item that the dog likes is used. Every time the dog responds to the click, he/she gets reward in form of this dog food. This makes the dog alert towards such clicking sounds. Thereafter, the dog is taught other chores, and each time a desired instruction is followed by the dog, some reward is offered by the trainer. This helps the dog associate food and click.
