How many times have you uttered the words “here boy, here boy, come here boy” and your dog just stared at you with his eyebrows going up and down one eye at a time, trying to figure out what your talking about? When you train your dog you have to realize that your dog may not yet understand or make the connection to the words that you have. In teaching my dog how to come to me I first repeat the base words I want him to listen to and come to, then I make gestures so he understands. Through repetition the dog will eventually understand and come to you.
