Accrediting Agencies

To receive a medical assistant accreditation you need to attend an institution that has met certain criteria for its programs. One of the agencies that accredits medical assistant programs is the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). This is the only bureau recognized by the Department of Education as a specializing crediting body for schools that are primarily concerned with health education and training. The other main agency involved in accrediting schools is the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) which is the largest accreditor in the health science field. It accredits over 2000 programs in 20 occupations.
