Selena A Mexican American Ideal
Mexican American singer Selena was one of the most famous yet humble Latina women in recent history. To many, she was the real life embodiment of an ideal Mexican American woman. However, I sometimes wonder how lofty an ideal it is. In my opinion, Selena appeared to be more Brazilian than Mexican, at least in physique. She was fairly voluptuous, and at a height of about five-and-a-half feet, Selena was taller than the average Mexican woman. Selena was a beautiful young lady inside and out, but her inner kindness, humility, and heart of gold are that which should be idealized most about her as a Latina, more so than her looks.
