The Origin of Angels
We most associate an angel with the stories in the Bible. They were supposedly created somewhere between the level of man and God with the angles ranking above man. They were spiritual creatures that lived in heaven and worked for God as the minsters of his will. The word itself is from the Greek angelos and means messenger. We often see them referred to as messengers of God’s word and they are sent to prophesy. They are usually associated with being heavenly beings but in some cases they are human. Malachi referred to himself as an angle and the elders of the seven churches of Asia were referred to as angels in Revelation.
